Company History

RHINOCEROS  was established in 1998 as Clean Streets Ltd, carrying out the application of the Duncan Maclean Anti-Flyposting system to street furniture in towns and cities across the UK, the Netherlands and overseas in New York and Buenos Aires. We cleaned, prepared and repainted the 100 foot lighting masts at the Dover Harbour Western Docks. Much of our work was for Transport for London removing posters, stickers and graffiti from street furniture on the major routes through the capital and applying the anti-flyposting coatings. In 2006 we applied Keim Granital paint to the soffits of the A-40 elevated section over Wood Lane in west London. In 2007 we applied Keim Lasur paints to the elevated A-40 soffits from Portobello Road to Ladbroke Grove and along Thorpe Close and we undertook the cleaning and maintenance of pedestrian subways in central London. We replaced damaged ceramic tiling, manhole covers, stair nosings and carried out a high pressure steam clean of the principal subways every six weeks.  In 2010 we were asked by Tishmann Speyer to construct a new subway at  Aldgate Place.  In 2010 the soffits over Bramley Road and St Marks Road were also painted with Keim Lasur paints. About the same time we removed all graffiti from retaining walls and underpasses along the M40 for Carillion.  In 2011 on behalf of Transport for London we carried out a major rebuilding and refurbishment of the pedestrian subways at Monument Underground station for the Corporation of London. This was completed in July 2012 in time for the opening of the 2012 Olympic Games. While working at Monument we also cleaned and refurbished the Blackfriars Underpass just a short distance away. Meanwhile another team were applying anti graffiti coatings to steps and seating around the Olympic Stadium at Stratford.

Final preparations at the Olympic Park are naturally going ahead full-blast.  RHINOCEROS were called in to protect walls, benches, stairs, ramps and street furniture with anti-graffiti coatings to ensure the legacy continues to look its best.

Protection was achieved by application of Pavix CCC100 Concrete Impregnation and Ekosorb to precast and poured concrete items

Our painters were busy at Old Street and Marble Arch repainting soffits.

Bridges

In 2009  and in 2010 we undertook the repainting of 23 bridges for Hampshire County Council. In 2010 we repainted Lochend and Restalrig bridges in Edinburgh. In 2011 we repainted KingsBridge in Swallowfield for Wokingham District Council. In 2012 a team of 12 blast cleaners and painters completed the repainting of 12000 sq m of steel on the Queen Elizabeth 11 Bridge in Belfast in time for the centenary of the launching of the Titanic a few hundred yards away. 2013 we repainted Hedge End FootbridgeCoxheath and Finchampstead bridges in Hampshire. In Peterborough we rebuilt and repointed brick retaining walls while Gunite and Shotcrete Services Ltd completed our concrete repairs with sprayed concrete.
